Profit from the Sports Madness

The wind has turned crisp, the Yankees are headed to the World Series, the NBA season starts tonight and NFL football is in full swing. Yes, sports are all around.
The holidays aren’t too far off, either, which means now is the time to get your hands on some sports memorabilia and merchandise to make a profit. If you’re as enthusiastic as some of Auctiva’s own, you know how passionate people get about their favorite sports teams. And if you’re not, let me just tell you: People go crazy. I’ve seen it firsthand.
So why not take advantage? Here’s a little advice from our own Product Analyst and Oakland A’s fanatic Rebecca Miller to help you get started.
1. Buy items at the end of the season. You’ll be sure to find the best prices then as people get engulfed in other sports and stores try to clear their racks. The baseball season will soon be over, and it already is for all but two teams. So now’s the time to look for baseball gear. Browse through the clearance section and see what gems were left behind.
2. Focus on local teams.Don’t limit your search to just professional teams; look for merchandise from your local university or minor league teams. This can be especially rewarding if a hardcore fanatic lives thousands of miles away from his or her favorite team. I know several people who left the Chico area after attending the university here, and they might be in the market for an Outlaws/Wildcats jersey.
3. Be wary of buying jerseys featuring players’ names. With free agency, you never know if a player will be with the same team next season and you could be left with a jersey that no one wants.
4. Look at sports items in the men’s, women’s and kids’ sections. Be an equal-opportunity seller. Men aren’t the only ones who love sports.
5. Keep your eyes open when browsing the non-sports aisles. You never know what may have gotten placed in the wrong spot by accident.
6. Ask the people around you what teams they follow. Who knows, your customer might be in the cubical next to you.
